Saturday...In the Park

Not sure what the weather is like at your place, but let me give you a little encouragement this Saturday to get outside and boost your Vitamin D stores. Most experts these days are agreeing that the majority of adults have low levels of Vitamin D due to our lack of outdoor activities and use of sunscreen. Low levels of Vitamin D are associated with depression and fatigue. I was recently diagnosed with low levels and have been supplementing throughout the winter. Winter is the most common time to have low levels because we are naturally inside more often. But now that the days are getting longer and warmer, take some time to get outside and get some Vitamin D the way your body was intended to...Sunshine! A mere 15 minutes a day of direct sunlight exposure will go a long way to boost your stores and improve your overall mood.

Today I have to work another wedding, but tomorrow is planting day! I can't wait to share our gardens with you. What are you planting this year?

Happy Saturday!

  1. Hi Amy! I am planting nothing this year. My husband will plant a few pepper plants again that he will nurture and care for. When the peppers grow, he picks them, puts them in a bowl on the counter, and looks at them until they brown and rot!

I will enjoy going to the Farmers' Market each week instead for my tomatoes and other veggies. The only planting I might do is a few annuals.

Planning on some sunshine while I pull some weeds tomorrow!

    1. LOL I miss the Farmer's Market. We used to sell baked goods down there, mostly pies.

  2. Thanks for the reminder to get the Vitamin D, Amy! This year, I am going to plant flowers in pots on my deck. The deer like to eat them unless they are on the raised deck. Until those deer learn to walk up about a dozen steps, the plants on the deck should be safe!

    1. Yeah, we are about to move and the deer are prolific there! I am already engineering some ideas to keep them out of the veggies.

  3. Yes! I am so with you, Amy! I spent quite a bit of time outside today with my kiddos and it was so refreshing!

  4. I love being outside in the summer. Sometimes I even take my computer outside and work by the pool just to be out in the fresh air! I know I am going to plant tomatoes and basil for sure, not sure what else!

    1. Oh, tomatoes and basil are staples around here. We make homemade sundried tomatoes packed in olive oil from our cherry and pear tomatoes. Yummy!
